Mama’s Meat Loaf
This is my absolute most favorite meat loaf. It is flavorful, juicy, and easy to make.
Time: 15 minutes prep, 1 hour cook
Serves: 10 people
From: Erin C.
Ingredients:
2 large onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1.5 pounds ground turkey
1.5 pounds ground beef
1.5 pounds ground pork
2 eggs
½ cup ketchup
¼ teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1 cup boiling water
8 ounces bread crumbs
2 Tablespoons dried Italian herbs
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Sauté onions until translucent, adding garlic towards the end. Place the meat in a large bowl. Add cooked onion, ketchup, pepper, and salt to meat. Knead by hand, mixing well. Add the boiling water, bread crumbs, herbs, and egg. Mix well again by hand. Shape into 2 large loaf pans or 4 small loaf pans. Bake for 1 hour – 1 ½ hours until cooked through at 350 degrees F.
Notes: I like to drain the grease before serving. You can also freeze them before cooking. Take out the night before to let thaw and then bake as normal. I also only use one pound of each kind of meat.
